About GIFT
GIFT is a multi-level approach to Green Infrastructure (GI). We work with communities to examine how green infrastructure practices from small to large can work where they live; on individual properties, in neighborhoods, or on large undeveloped land. These nature-based solutions are intended to work in conjunction with built drainage systems (gray infrastructure) to meet the needs of communities in Texas.
The GIFT Team provides resources and programming about nature-based solutions for stormwater management. Through outreach, coalition-building, education, and on the ground projects, GIFT works to inspire communities to implement green infrastructure projects at any scale. Green infrastructure uses innovative design practices that emphasize local strengths and context to reduce flood risk while providing a multitude of other benefits including:
- Reducing stormwater runoff
- Protecting and improving water quality
- Providing community green space
- Supporting local priorities and emerging needs
