Wetland Plants for the Home Garden

June 19, 2014 @ 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm

Even if you don’t have a pond, bog, or rain garden, you may be surprised to learn how many native wetland plants you can grow in regular garden soil. Find out about the amazing adaptability of wetland plants in this region. We’ll also discuss the ethics of wild collecting, and some important native wetland species you probably DON’T want in your home water garden.

About the speaker: Mary Carol is a native grown in Houston, herself. She has spent a lifetime messing with plants, except for a short period when she was in grad school for a Masters in Architecture at University of Houston.  At Texas Coastal Watershed Program, she is tasked with changing the way we build flood control basins on the Gulf Coast by demonstrating how adding a wetland improves water quality, provides habitat, and adds green space.
