Calling volunteers: Come plant a wetland around the Habitat Island at Exploration Green! The island situated in Exploration Green’s Phase 1 lake will be ready for native trees and wetland species, creating a refuge for migratory birds and waterbirds. TCWP is a part of the redevelopment of the former golf course into a state of the art stormwater detention park, and is providing the stormwater wetland.
Planting will take place over two Saturdays. The tree planting, led by Trees for Houston, will take place on Saturday, November 18. The wetland planting, led by TCWP, is Saturday, November 25.
Registration for the events is at https://explorationgreen.eventbrite.com/
If rain dates are needed, planting will take place the following Saturdays, Nov 25 for trees, and Dec 2 for wetlands.
Access to the island itself will be by boat, and will be limited to 50 people. However, there will be volunteer activities on shore as well. Children with a parent present are welcome to do work onshore. Wear clothes and shoes that can get wet and muddy. Tools will be provided. We will keep going until all the plants are in the ground! For more information, contact mcedwards@tamu.edu.
There is no charge for this community event, but an RSVP is requested. For questions please contact mcedwards (at) tamu.edu. See you soon at Exploration Green!
